In the last few months, I’ve been eating in the paleo way. I’ve depleted fat reserves, I’m feeling more alert, and my energy levels have suped up!
The Paleo Way
I was turned on to this lifestyle when researching weight loss resistance to help my clients boost things up. True to my nature, I wouldn’t suggest anything I hadn’t tried so I went paleo and things just started changing in a very positive way.
What is Paleo? It’s the caveman diet! It’s about going back to our roots, going back to the way our bioengineering system is designed to work. We’ve evolved in 2 million years, but our basic bioengineering system has not evolved all that much. We are made to survive on fish, game, fruit, vegetables and nuts. All those grains were not in our original diet, we began eating them in starve situations and in time, we have adapted them into our diet. Grains come from grass and we are NOT grass eaters. Ok, for sure we do get nutrients from those grains, I am not discounting that, but the fact that we do not break down these foods in digestion speaks loudly.
Here’s how it works… Eliminate grains and milk products. We are not engineered to have either one! It’s easy really, yet, not so easy to adapt. Sugars are highly addictive and there is a very reason for that. We are engineered to want those sugars since sugars produce fat. In a long ago time, we needed to put on that body fat to survive droughts and lean seasons. When we are hungry, our body wants those sugars! When we eliminate those sugars and feed ourselves with proteins and vegetable carbs, our body rebels for a few weeks. Let’s call that <JONESING>.. The same way an addict craves his drug.
The dowsnside to this lifestyle is that we are told that cavemen lacked nutrients so why adopt that lifestyle? well, there is truth to that, but cavemen had not developed ways to keep foods fresh and available throughout the whole year, nor did they have access to refridgeration or supplements! It’s the new caveman!
It took me a good 3 weeks to begin feeling the positive affects of eliminating grains and I have to admit that it was a struggle. I never really felt full! I wasn’t hungry, but didn’t have that Oh So Good feeling in my belly! For those of us who really like that feeling, that is the most difficult part. But then, what a difference! Oh my! I’m clear headed, I have long lasting energy, and I’m leaner than I’ve ever been!
How did I do it?  I went cold turkey!!! And failed! So I tried again… This time, I eliminated all grains and milk products except at breakfast. I felt that at least, I was able to tell myself that I was having it! And since breakfast is always my hungriest time, this tactic worked for me. Slowly, I began to eliminate grains and milk products slowly during a two-week period and finally just gave it up.
This will only work if:
1)  You eat at regular intervals, not letting yourself EVER get into starve mode. EVER!
2)Â Â You have to be prepared in your fridge, for fast grab items that fit the lifestyle
3)Â Â You have to be willing to try new things and spend time exploring with foods
4)Â Â You have to recognize that things are different and accept it
Here are few resources that have helped me get and stay on track

There are also a number of great books and cookbooks at your local bookstore. All I have done really, is change up my recipes to accommodate the lifestyle, I’ve added a lot more vegetables, fruit and nuts to every meal and things are just rockin’!
Have you changed things up and gotten great results? leave me a comment, tell you your story!!!
Try it out; you never know… what if it works for you too?

That is a very similar diet to what Tim Ferriss recommends in his book ‘The 4-Hour Body’.
The twist with his is that you can have a ‘binge’ day every week where pretty much anything goes. Plus you are allowed a glass or two of red wine every night. His advice is
1. Avoid white carbohydrates (The bleach, chlorine dioxide, used to whiten flour combines with residual protein to form alloxin which is used to induce diabetes in lab rat!!)
2. Eat the same meals again and again
3. Don’t drink calories (Bear and white wine etc)
4. Don’t eat fruit
5. Take one week off a week
I will be implementing his ideas next week so will let you know what results I get.
HI Andy.. thanks for leaving a comment… yes, i’ve read and done the 4-hour body, but have found that it’s too strict for my needs. I work out like a freak, really need to focus on fueling with natural sugars and since i don’t have a weight problem, fruit is definitely in my diet! however, i wish you all the best with this, keep me posted on how it all works out for you, i’m interested in your results. oh, and eating the same meal over and over again gets to be tedious for me, i love the taste of new foods, so i stick to my rules and experiment alot!
