There’s nothing more boring than a weekend stuck inside because of the temperature not cooperating. But what’s even worst is sitting on the couch the entire weekend… don’t need to stay home there is a bunch of activities that you could be doing! And being a student I don’t have hundreds of dollar to spend on fun activities, so I found some activities that are cheap and fun. Activities that we don’t always think of doing, all under $20 and that will get you moving.

Party time or calorie time?
Wednesday, June 8th, 2011
We’ve all been there, we go to a party and we enjoy a couple of drinks but did you ever take the time to think how many calories there is in alcohol or just even pop? Watching what you eat is not everything. You need to also watch what you drink because many of the calories we take in a day are in drinks. Alcohol is considered an empty calorie; it has absolutely no nutrient and has up to 7 calories per gram. To give you an idea on how bad it is: alcohol comes second to pure fat… disgusting right? For instance did you know that cream liquor shot (tequila per example) can contain 160 calories, the same amount of calories as a serving of 100 grams of scrambled eggs? Or that a pint of lager (16 oz / 500 ml) has around 180 calories, the same amount of calories in a large slice of chocolate cake?!
But I’m not here to tell you to stop drinking, that would just be hypocrite. I’m here to give you tricks, tricks that can let you drink and still fallow a good amount of calories per day. First trick, if you are going to the restaurant and plan on taking a couple beers or wine don’t start with an aperitif (an alcoholic drink taken before a meal to increase the appetite). This will only increase calorie intake which means you will eat more then you really need to. Start with water or vegetable cocktail and then have a drink after your don eating. Second trick, if you’re having a couple drinks with your friends, add ice. Adding ice is adding water and by adding water you are reducing the amount of alcohol in your drink which also means that you are reducing the amount of empty calories. And third and final trick, be aware of what you take. Here’s a little website that tells you how many calories are in different types of alcoholic beverages: http://bit.ly/1aGAE0. With that website you can compare what you usually take to some maybe better stuff that you could take instate.
My favourite drink is a nice cold Daiquiri and it has up to 130 calories per cocktail! What is your favourite drink and how many calories does yours have? Take the time to research and you will probably be very surprised!
