Hey, are you like me? eating when sad, eating when happy, eating when bored? Yes you are! We’re human, we all are!!
Recently, I’ve asking my friends, family, people I know what foods they prefer to choose when in an emotional state. Most came back with sugars.. but most also only answered to sad emotions.. Let’s try to break this down…
There are days when I question… where am I going? what am I doing? Where do I turn? Do you have those days?
I’ve made many changes in my life this year, mostly positive ones and some that leave me wondering… there are moments of doubt, moments of triumph, moments of happiness and moments of regret. We all have those moments, it’s called life!!
Today, I heard a story…Â A story that reached me deeply…
A woman sees a door and walks through it. The door shuts behind her. It is locked. Upon hearing the locking mechanism, she turns to run back through the door and she realizes she cannot get through. She panics. She turns one way, then the other but cannot see any way out. Crying and enraged, she only sees the locked door. As hard as she tries, she cannot get through that door.
Are you bored with the usual gym regime? Stuck with your weight load? Not sure where to go from there? Let’s change things up!
I was at the gym yesterday and overheard two women speaking with each other. The topic? Boredom! We all get there and become complacent when the results are no longer taking shape. More often than not, the results slow down and boredom sets in because the baseline of work needs to change. Our body is designed to give out to the weight load or the demand and NO MORE! It’s an energy efficient thing! When the body is used to the load, the demand or the energy output, it settles in as it’s new baseline. In other words, it’s what you’re asking, it’s adapted and that’s that! For example, if you have a heavy box that needs to be brought upstairs, it may be a struggle the first time. If you move that box upstairs every day, it will be easier and easier each time. Why? because your body is adapting to the demand, and before you know it… it’s just another thing to do every day!
It’s Saturday morning, my pup won’t go out to do his thing.. It’s cold out there today. I’m sitting with my coffee and I thought I’d just enjoy the moment… strange feeling…
I’m one of these high energy people, always on the go, something new and exciting over the horizon.. If I’m not work busy, I’m play busy. Life chores take a back seat to all that is fun and productive…
As I’m sitting here contemplating what I’m going to accomplish today, it suddenly dawned on me that I just don’t do this often enough… Just sitting back… Just breathing in the quiet.. I think I’m enjoying this!
I’ve always had a very busy life. I raised 2 boys. My goal was to give them every opportunity to taste life to it’s fullest and I was by their side every moment of those discoveries. We traveled, we played, we experienced.. and now that have flown from the nest, I’ve filled my life with other “business”… I still play, I still experience, but I do it on another platform. Yet, I’m still very busy! I have to admit, I love winter! I love the snowscapes, I love the feeling of the cold… I love all that warm clothing.. I love seeing my breath in the air… I love that wherever i go, I leave my footprints, the crunch of the snow… I just love it!!! Ok, enough already right?
I didn’t always love winter, as a matter of fact, until I began playing in the snow, I was like many people and just endured, hid away and did everything possible to just be inside… so what happened?
I’m not sure really.. I discovered an outside sport that I really enjoyed in spite of the cold. And then, as I excelled in the sport, I discovered a huge social circle that kept me coming back.. and then… I became one of the leaders, reached for certifications and before I knew it, I was in the cold EVERYDAY!! but being in the cold takes a little bit of planning.. Here are a few tips to help you out!
Do you ever catch yourself speaking to no one under your breath? Words that describe yourself in that moment? Words that program the outcome? I do.. The hardest project I have undertaken in changing my self-talk.
We do it without thinking. We do without taking notice. And what we are telling ourselves are LIES! I’d like to share a story with you.. Something that happened to me in my teenage years and still happens now when I let it.
I wasn’t one of those graceful girls. I was a little nerdy, academically strong, and somewhat of a tomboy. Wouldn’t catch me in a dress if my life depended on it! My favorite shoes were rubber boots and tell the truth now, they still are! I was told time and time again that I was clumsy, that I dropped things, that I tripped and fell down more than I was on my feet. I was told all those lies by whom? well… by me! It got to a point where I was programming the outcome. I did fall. I did drop things. Because I knew I would. My self talk was so strong that others began to fall in that game and expected me to drop or trip. It was the on-going joke. My friends would wait for it to happen… Oh, sometimes it was funny… but most times it wasn’t!
It’s amazing isn’t it? It’s the New Year! 2012!! I have made some strong decisions for myself for this new year. Making it happen and all that stuff!!! Ummmm… ok, where do i start? If you’re like me, making the decision is easy…. Designing the plan to make it happen may not be so easy…
As I sit here, on a bright Monday morning, I have the overwhelming feeling that I may not know exactly how to make it happen after all… I have a yen to go out to play instead of facing the task at hand. Can you guess why? well… it’s because I’m faced with tasks, and no plan on how to get it done!!! So instead of dwelling on that, here’s what I am doing…
It’s done! The holidays are over, we’re back at work.. now what?
If you’re like many people, you start off the new year with resolve.. Planning new beginnings, changes, new habits, powerful decisions….  and then…
Life Happens!
The kids, the chores, work, family… What’s missing here? Where do you fit into all this?
We go on with our daily lives expecting somehow that the decisions we made in January should just happen.. because we made the decision.. for most, the problem isn’t making the decision.. the problem is making the decision to make the decision happen!! huh? what was that???
