What does Coaching Really Mean?

Have you ever worked with a coach?  Have you ever experienced those AHA moments?  Have you taken notice of when these moments take place?

I’ll let you in on a secret….  Coaching is not about having things done FOR you, it’s about learning to do them yourself.  Those AHA moments only happen when you’ve experienced the learning curve on your own!

I’ve coached many women into a healthy lifestyle, it’s not always easy.  Some of us have mounted barriers with every excuse on why it just can’t be done… My job as a coach is to break down every one of those barriers, one step at a time…  Coaching is about giving you the tools to break free, to jump out of that comfortable box and explore the possibilities.

Coaches/Clients = responsibility with authority

As coaches and personal trainers, we have all the responsibility but NO authority!

I met with a new client yesterday, a beautiful woman who is ready to make changes, to take on the world.  She was very excited about her idea of a fresh start.  We spoke on many issues including what it takes to make these changes, my commitment and responsibility to her and her responsibility and commitment to herself.

As a Coach

My commitment:  when I sign on with a client, my commitment is to be there to guide, to help, to encourage and to teach.  Nobody can take without responsibility if she doesn’t have knowledge.  I believe that trainers and coaches are teachers first.  The rest is background work.  I promised to speak with her, to be faithful to her time slot, to be present and engaged with her at every session.  Does it stop there, in that moment with her?  As a coach, the hard part is not being available 24/7.  What are they eating, are they doing their work?
